Profile

Ryan Harris is one of many Australian fast bowlers who have had their careers cut short by a series of ongoing injuries.

The beefy quick made his international debut in 2009 in an ODI against South Africa, but it wasn’t for a further 12 months that he would stake his claim as a player to watch.

Back to back five wicket hauls against Pakistan, including a career best 5/19, had him on the radar as Australia’s next go to man with the ball. 13 wickets at an average of just 8.15 earned him Man of the Series honours.

Harris didn’t make his test debut until 2010, but it was cut short by a knee injury after just a handful of appearances.

He returned in the 2010/11 Ashes series, where he starred in an otherwise disappointing campaign. Nine wickets in the Perth Test led Australia to their only win of the series.

Strong displays in South Africa and against India at home were peppered with further injuries to his knee, hip and shoulders.

Harris has also applied his trade in the IPL, where he currently plays for the Kings XI Punjab. He had a solid tournament in 2012, highlighted by his 4/34 against the Rajasthan Royals.

Injuries have cruelled what has so far been a sparkling career, with Harris taking 47 wickets in just 12 Tests, while also performing very well in ODI’s.

At 33, he is still a valued member of the squad, but one gets the feeling that another injury might just be the end for the powerful quick.
