Profile

An absolutely stunning start to his career for the 24-year-old Copeland, who took 35 wickets in his first five Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield matches to put him joint third in the overall list of wicket-takers in the competition, despite playing in only half the games.

His First Class debut was remarkable. Running in to bowl against Queensland at the Sydney Cricket Ground in January, Trent took the incredible figures of 8-92, which were the second-best figures in an innings ever by a New South Welshman on debut. He added two more in the second innings to finish with 10-149 in his first match.

After this start he could have been forgiven for easing up but he continued to perform and added two more five-wicket hauls before the season was out. He also performed well in the Ford Ranger Cup, picking up three wickets on debut and being asked to bowl the vital last over by skipper Simon Katich in a narrow win over Queensland.

Trent deserved his chance after topping the Sydney First Grade wicket-taking list for the previous two seasons. He was rewarded with a three year contract by Cricket NSW, and was named in a provisional Australia ‘A’ squad to take on Sri Lanka, although he missed out on final selection.

QnA

When and where did you hit your first six?

I think it was in under 12's reps in Bathurst, I thought it was the best thing ever! Don't like being hit for them now I can tell you!

Facebook or Twitter?

Twitter, not on Facebook

Who spends the most time in front of the mirror?

SOK, by popular demand though

Renovate yourself or hire a tradie?

Myself when I get the time, like doing things myself.. More satisfaction when it's finished!

Which teammate would win Celebrity Master Chef?

I think Steve Smith would like to think he would but I'd say Nev. His infamous nevstar ratings of team dinner venues last year were a big hit and spot on - a possible future in food for the great man behind the stumps

What global issue concerns you the most?

I'd probably say political turmoil in other countries. Having just been in Zimbabwe for a month with the Australia A team, the situation there with Robert Mugabe etc is not enviable and we really are very lucky in Australia
