A smart and skilful left-arm finger spinner, he made an immediate impression in the one-day team with 4-46 on debut against Sri Lanka at the MCG in November 2010.
Less than a month later he bolted into the Test team ahead of Nathan Hauritz, and played the first two Tests against England. Was omitted after a rampant Kevin Pietersen got after him in Adelaide and by the end of the summer had been replaced by Michael Beer.
However, he remained a vital member of the one-day team and claimed career-best figures of 4-28 against Sri Lanka in August.
Captained Tasmania when George Bailey was away on Australia A duty in November and led the Tigers to an impressive outright win over Victoria at the MCG. Also a handy lower-order batsman.
