Profile

Jason Behrendorff could be the next Western Australian left-arm quick to make a name for himself. Following in the footsteps of Bruce Reid, Brendon Julian and more recently Mitchell Johnson, the 23 year old has made a steady start to his fledgling cricket career.

The paceman couldn’t have asked for a better start to his limited-overs career, removing Mark Cosgrove with his first delivery. Behrendorff has gone on to play nine more matches in 50 over cricket, where he has taken a handy twelve wickets. In the penultimate match of the 2012/13 season, he took career best figures of 3-39 against the Queensland Bulls.

Still relatively inexperienced, Behrendorff will be hoping for more opportunities in the Bupa Sheffield Shield. He has made solid contributions with the ball in his seven appearances thus far, picking up 23 scalps along the way.

The tall quick made his debut in 2011 at the MCG and dismantled the Bushrangers’ top order with a fiery spell that saw him remove Australian stars Chris Rogers, Rob Quiney and Aaron Finch.

Behrendorff continued his love affair against Victoria in the first game of the 2012/13 Shield season, finishing with match figures of 7/53. He has been touted as one of the most promising left-arm quicks coming through the domestic ranks, which saw him win the “Future Legend Award” at the Western Australian Cricket Association’s presentation night.

The seamer featured prominently for the Perth Scorchers in the BBL in 2012/13. He snared nine wickets from his six games including 3/44 on debut. However, an economy rate of nearly nine an over is something he will want to rectify as soon as possible.
