CA optimistic of India twilight Test

Start time of iconic Test match still up in the air

Cricket Australia boss James Sutherland hopes India falls in line with other leading cricket nations as he continues to push for a day-night Adelaide Test against the world's No.1 team.

CA released its full summer international schedule on Monday but could not confirm it will continue its recent tradition of pink-ball Tests in the clash at Adelaide Oval from December 6.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has been opposed to the day-night Test innovation started by Australia in 2015.

However, a report from India last week indicated they may play one of two home Tests against West Windies in October under lights.

If so, it would help prepare them for a pink-ball clash on Australian soil.

"I hope so," Sutherland said when asked if the reports were an indication the BCCI had changed its tune.

"Of the top eight or nine teams it's only Bangladesh and India that haven't committed and I've always said it is part of the future of Test cricket.

"We're optimistic and will continue to talk it through ... they're not the first country that's had trepidation about playing day-night Test cricket so we understand where they're coming from."

Perth Stadium will host a Test match for the first time when the second Test against India is played from December 14 to 18.

With Melbourne and Sydney hosting India for the traditional Boxing Day and New Year Tests, Brisbane misses out on the summer's most high-profile series and loses its status as the season-opening Test venue.

Instead the Gabba will host the first of two Tests against Sri Lanka, a day-nighter from January 24 which runs over the Australia Day long weekend.

"It's pretty clear that the Gabba has slipped down the rankings a little bit," Sutherland said.

"Both these stadiums (in Adelaide and Perth) are modern, state of the art stadiums ... the Gabba was that once and I'm sure it will be again."

Queensland Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington attacked the state Labor government for losing the first Test of the summer.

"It's simply just not cricket," she said.

"This is a real kick in the guts for all cricket lovers."

Queensland's tourism minister, Kate Jones, said a review of stadium management was currently underway, and pointed to "the world's best rugby league stadium" at Suncorp Stadium.

"But a day-night game at the Gabba, on Australia Day, we know it will deliver record crowds and that's a win for the economy."

To soften the blow for Queenslanders, Gold Coast is to host international cricket for the first time, staging a T20 game between Australia and South Africa.

The T20 international at Metricon Stadium on November 17 will follow Australia's three one-dayers against the touring Proteas in Perth, Adelaide and Hobart.

Sutherland also hinted the Commonwealth Games venue was in the mix to host KFC Big Bash League games this summer.

Canberra's Manuka Oval will host its maiden Test when Australia round out their home summer of cricket in game two against Sri Lanka from February 1.

Sutherland said Big Bash games would not clash with the "first few days" of the Gabba twilight Test, and only be played at night during the Manuka Oval fixture.

Public tickets for the men's internationals will go on sale in June, with women's matches on sale in August. Members of the Australian Cricket Family will again enjoy priority access to tickets. Join here.
