Australia A matches moved to Bengaluru

One-day series reduced to three games per side, plus a final, after Vijayawada matches were washed out

Persistant rain has forced the Board of Control for Cricket in India to move the remaining one-day matches in the quadrangular 'A' series from Vijayawada to Bengaluru.

Australia A were scheduled to take on South Africa A on Sunday, but the weather again ensured no play was possible after the opening two matches in the four-team series were called off without a ball bowled on Friday.

A BCCI statement said: "With more rains forecast in the days to come, the match officials in consultation with the four teams have reached a consensus to change the venues for the remaining fixtures in the series."

Bengaluru's main ground, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, will host matches, while some will also be played at the KSCA Stadium in Alur, on the city's north-western outskirts.

The 50-over tournament, which also features India A and India B, will now see all teams play against each other once before the final on August 29.

The first match of the tour for the Australians is now scheduled to take place on Thursday against India A.

“We obviously want to play as much cricket as we can on this tour, and ensure the players get the most out of it by being out in the middle and testing themselves against quality opposition in these conditions,” Australia A coach Graeme Hick said.

“Unfortunately the weather we’ve had so far in Vijayawada hasn’t allowed us to do that.

“Moving the quadrangular series will hopefully give us greater opportunity to play, so we’re looking forward to getting to Bangalore and the remaining one-day matches.”

Hick's squad had enjoyed a centre-wicket training session on Saturday morning, but an overnight thunderstorm and persistent drizzle on Sunday meant no play was possible.
