Australia make four changes in Joburg

Tim Paine becomes Australia's 46th Test captain as the Aussies return to the field after tumultuous week

Session times: 7pm-9pm | 9.40-11.40pm |12.00am-2am (all times AEDT)

The fourth Test will be broadcast live in Australia on Fox Sports while SEN's live radio commentary can be heard on the CA Live app and cricket.com.au

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc has been ruled out of the fourth Test due to injury, with uncapped paceman Chadd Sayers picked to debut at The Wanderers as Australia return to action following the ball-tampering saga that has cost their captain, vice-captain and coach their jobs.

Sayers was presented his cap, No.452 for Australia, by former Test batsman Adam Voges an hour before the start of play.

Queensland opening pair Matthew Renshaw and Joe Burns have also been included, replacing banned top-order duo David Warner and Cameron Bancroft, while Peter Hansdcomb comes in to replace suspended skipper Steve Smith.

Victorian Glenn Maxwell, one of three late additions to the squad this week along with Renshaw and Burns, has not been selected in the XI.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first.

Tim Paine, as announced on Wednesday, will captain the side as Australia’s 46th Test captain in Smith's place.

Boof bombshell on emotional day

The Proteas remain unchanged for the fourth and final Test, which will Morne Morkel’s final international match having announced his retirement at the start of the series.

The Wanderers will also be the final match for coach Darren Lehmann, who emotionally resigned on match eve yesterday.

Sayers was a late call-up to the Qantas Tour of South Africa after Tasmania paceman Jackson Bird was ruled out with a hamstring injury in the final round of JLT Sheffield Shield matches before the Test squad left Australian shores.

Having toured with Australia’s Test squad to New Zealand in 2016, Sayers came within a whisker of selection on his home turf in Adelaide later that year for the third Test against the Proteas, but missed out to Bird.

A relatively short right-armer capable of swinging the ball both ways, he captured 62 wickets in the 2016-17 Shield season as the Redbacks finished runners-up to Victoria.
