Aussie bowlers keen to tighten grip on India

The Southern Stars had a brush with local royalty but will not be extending pleasantries to their hosts in today's second ODI

After an unexpected but welcome encounter with Indian royalty on Wednesday, Australia have their attention firmly fixed on securing a 2-nil ODI series lead in Commonwealth Bank Tour of India.

The ODI squad visited Vadodara's royal residence, Lukshmi Vilas Palace, on Wednesday morning, where they were greeted by her highness Radhika Raje, the Queen of Baroda – herself a cricket fan who intends to attend at least of the two one-dayers in her home city.

Then, it was all business in the afternoon at the Australians – who gifted the Maharani a signed playing shirt but didn't quite manage to sway her allegiance away from the home team – returned to the Reliance Stadium nets.

The tourists are expecting the runs to flow in Thursday's second one-day international, with captain Meg Lanning calling on her bowlers to replicate their dominant performance from the series opener.

The Southern Stars strolled to an eight-wicket win in 32.1 overs on Monday, having kept India's powerful batting line-up to just 200.

A different wicket will be employed for the second game of the three-match series, but Australia head coach Matthew Mott doesn't foresee any surprises in the different strip.

"The whole square is amazing, we're really happy with the facilities that have been put up here and I know India would have been disappointed with that score on Monday," Mott said.

"The par (on Monday) was 260-plus and to our credit we kept them below that.

"But as we showed with the bat, it was a really good surface to bat on, so whoever wins the toss (Thursday) will be looking to punch out a big score."

The tourists anticipate a sterner test from India than the performance put up by the hosts on Monday, while the return of India captain Mithali Raj, who confirmed on Thursday she was fit to return after missing the first ODI through illness, will likely galvanise the locals.

"There's no doubt she's a world-class player, you take her out of any side and you definitely lose something," Lanning said.

"We're expecting her to play tomorrow and she adds a lot to that team.

Healy hails Australia's dominant display

"We knew their batting line up can perform a lot better than they did the other day, so that's what we're expecting and we're looking to make sure we're ready for that and stick to what worked first game, which is a good challenge for us."

Monday's comprehensive victory has set a blueprint for the remainder of the Commonwealth Bank Tour of India, with Mott describing it as a "pretty complete performance".

"Our first couple of overs we looked a bit rusty with the ball but I think we adjusted our plans very well, and Meg's captaincy where she rotated the bowlers was really positive for us and something we'd spoken about.

"To keep India to 200 on a wicket like that was a fantastic performance. Then with the bat we played smart cricket and took total out of chase, and looked at processes we wanted to go about on a very good batting wicket."

The second ODI will get underway at 9am local time on Thursday (2.30pm AEDT). Cricket.com.au will provide news, scores, highlights and behind-the-scenes coverage from on the ground in India, while Fox Sports will broadcast live the ODIs, plus the T20I tri-series that will follow.
