World Cup heroes honoured with gifts

Cricket Australia sends replica trophy to players and staff to congratulate on fifth World Cup crown

Australia's World Cup heroes have been thanked by Cricket Australia for delivering a record fifth trophy with some exclusive memorabilia.

Each of the 15 squad members and the team's support staff have received a limited edition World Cup replica trophy and cufflinks, along with a personal letter of congratulations and thanks from CA chairman Wally Edwards and chief executive James Sutherland.

The 18cm tall, 1kg premium replica trophy is a limited edition produced by the International Cricket Council and comes in a custom leather case.

Australia opener Aaron Finch – currently home recuperating from hamstring surgery after picking up the injury in the Indian Premier League – today tweeted a picture after receiving the gift.

Australia beat New Zealand by seven wickets in the World Cup final in front of a record 93,013 fans to secure the nation's fifth title, and captain Michael Clarke's second.

The victory avenged Australia's only loss in the tournament, a thrilling one-wicket pool stage defeat to the Black Caps in Auckland, while another game was washed out.

All 15 Australian players featured in at least one game during the tournament with a solid core of seven players featuring in all eight. Those players were Finch, Brad Haddin, Mitchell Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc and David Warner.
