IPL auction on radar for Kohli conqueror

A young allrounder who dismissed the India captain during a recent tour match is among a group of Australians looking to be picked up in Tuesday's IPL auction

Western Australia young gun Aaron Hardie could be a bidding bolter in an IPL auction that will be light for Australian interest.

Scheduling conflicts mean several Australian stars have not nominated for the big-money Indian Premier League, which will run from March 29 to May 19.

But Hardie, who turns 20 on January 7, is a name to watch among the 346 players in Tuesday's Jaipur auction.

Hardie hustles for hard-fought 86

The all-rounder showcased his talents to Indian cricket in last month's tour match at the SCG.

The fast bowler took 4-50, including the prized scalp of Virat Kohli, and made 86 for the Australian XI against India.

Hardie is yet to make his debut in the BBL, Sheffield Shield or domestic one dayers.

He is among 23 Australians in the auction pool.

While the reserve price for Shaun Marsh and D'Arcy Short will be around $A385,000, Hardie will start at a tenth of that.

Marsh, Alex Carey and Adam Zampa are among likely World Cup squad selections who have nominated for the IPL.

Other notable Australians are Test No.3 Usman Khawaja and injury-plagued paceman James Pattinson, who has made a successful Shield comeback for Victoria, plus Short and Ben McDermott.

Banned Australian stars Steve Smith and David Warner will not be in the auction because their franchises have retained them.

But their availability for the IPL remains unclear, given Cricket Australia have made it clear that national and domestic commitments will take priority.

The 15-man World Cup squad will have to attend a May training camp that clashes with the IPL.

The Indian league also cuts across an Australia-Pakistan one-day series and the Shield final.

T20 stars such as Glenn Maxwell have opted out of returning to the IPL.
