BBL Fantasy preview: Adelaide Strikers

Travis Head takes the reins of a new-look and under-rated side that offers plenty of BBL|07 fantasy options

Squad: Wes Agar, Alex Carey, Jono Dean, Travis Head, Colin Ingram (SAf), Ben Laughlin, Jake Lehmann, Rashid Khan (Afg), Michael Neser, Liam O’Connor, Peter Siddle, Billy Stanlake, Jake Weatherald, Jonathan Wells.

Ins: In: Colin Ingram (SAf), Rashid Khan (Afg), Peter Siddle (Renegades), Jonathan Wells (Hurricanes).

Outs: Ben Dunk (Stars), Chris Jordan (ENG), Brad Hodge, Jon Holland, Tim Ludeman, Kieron Pollard, Kane Richardson (all Renegades), Craig Simmons, Kelvin Smith.

Master Blaster: South Australia's favourite son right now, Travis Head will take the captaincy for the Adelaide Strikers for the first time, making him the state skipper in all three formats. A veritable bargain at just $59,900, get him in the XI early before that price skyrockets. And just because it's probably the finest knock the BBL has ever seen, here's those highlights from that New Year's Eve century

Head's New Year's Eve miracle

Strike weapon: With fifty matches under his belt, Ben Laughlin ($71,700) is the BBL's all-time leading wicket-taker, and by some margin. He has 69 wickets (15 more than closes rival Brad Hogg), at a average of 19.06 and a fairly tidy economy of 7.62 for someone who specialises bowling at the death. A certain starter for the Strikers, he's a high-value buy that you know will deliver wickets.

Young gun: 23-year-old man mountain Billy Stanlake ($87,700) has been missing in action for the early part of this summer – an infection in a wound in his big toe caused by bowling required surgery – but he's back and ready to show why he was handed a national contract in the BBL. The 204cm tower of terror from the Gold Coast won a spot in Australian gold on the back of Big Bash performances last summer and will be looking for a repeat.

Bustling Bill bags a brace

Overseas impact: A new look international influence for Adelaide this year, and if we're talking impact, there's few in the game that hit the ball harder than South Africa's Colin Ingram ($65,000). Nicknamed 'Bulldozer' for his powerful ball-striking, the former Proteas international will love batting at the Adelaide Oval.

Surprise packet: David Warner labelled him a superstar in the making after sharing an IPL dressing room with him, but Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan ($75,000) is a largely unknown quantity for Australian audiences. It won't last. Rashid will love playing for the Strikers, and Adelaide will love him back in what could be the cult hero story of the summer. Don't say you weren't warned…

Googlies galore in Rashid Khan hat-trick

Fantasy bargain: In an under-rated line-up that is full of bargains, the best value could well be found in the form of rising star Jake Lehmann ($30,000). His final-ball match-winning six at the Adelaide Oval in BBL|05 is the stuff of Big Bash folklore and he continued his climb towards international honours with a blazing double ton in the JLT Sheffield Shield.
