Heat launch world-first VR experience

Fans can step into the shoes of the Heat heroes thank to new virtual reality technology

Brisbane Heat fans will get to experience life as their cricketing heroes first hand this summer, thanks to world-first virtual reality technology.

The KFC Big Bash League club has launched Heat VR, which will allow fans to virtually tour the Heat dressing rooms before stepping out on to the Gabba to face an over from Ben Cutting.

Heat VR uses immersive virtual and augmented reality technology across both mobile platforms and via full feature virtual reality, which will be rolled out a major community events.

The VR technology and headsets will initially be available in selected shopping centres displays from next week, while fans can also download the new Heat VR app.

The app will feature immersive 360 content produced by the Brisbane Heat, giving fans a unique behind-the-scenes perspective as hosted by Cutting and Rebel Women's Big Bash League quick Holly Ferling.

Available for free on both iOS and Android, Heat VR utilises Augmented Reality technology to make playing cards featuring Heat and WBBL Heat players such as Jimmy Peirson and Jess Jonassen, posters and match-day tickets come to life, giving fans a unique digital experience in Australian sport. 

Brisbane Heat General Manager Andrew McShea said Heat VR was a world first.

"Heat VR is a game changer when it comes to fan engagement. Heat VR harnesses world leading technology across multi platforms using virtual and augmented reality.” 

"We are thrilled to be the first club to launch a virtual reality brand in Australian and world Cricket,’’ he said.

"We believe a Heat match day experience is one of the best in Australian sport and with only four home games at the Gabba Heat VR gives us the ability to take our game day experience to fans all over the world."
