Hurricanes lock in rising stars

Cameron Boyce and Jake Reed sign on with the 'Canes for another three seasons

Hobart Hurricanes have locked in rising stars Cameron Boyce and Jake Reed for another three KFC T20 Big Bash league seasons.

Queensland-born Boyce has played four T20 internationals for Australia, taking six wickets at an average of 13.66.

Reed was impressive in his debut season with Hobart, snaring eight wickets – including a four-wicket haul against Sydney Thunder – in his five matches.

Boyce feels playing for the Hurricanes in the BBL can only enhance his chances of continuing to press for national selection.

"The Hurricanes have shown a lot of loyalty in me and I am very excited as to what is in store for our group moving forward, I want to be part of something special at the 'Canes,” the leg-spinner said.

"By signing on I have hopefully shown the coaches, support staff and fans that I want to be part of Hobart's long-term success in the competition.

"I got a taste of International T20 cricket last season and I owe it to everyone involved in the Hurricanes system. Hopefully I can continue to play well and play more games for Australia in the future."

Boyce is also rapt to have an opportunity to learn from Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara, who has signed on with the Hurricanes for the next two seasons.

"He's a very good player of spin and I can learn a lot from him on and off the field," Boyce added.

Reed, whose slip-up at the creases in his debut game became an internet sensation, bowled with good pace and he, too, is excited about securing his mid-term T20 future with the Damien Wright-led Hurricanes.

"I really enjoyed my first season down in Hobart with 'Wrighty' and the boys," he said.

"It's a great place with great people.

"We are putting together a solid list and I'm really looking forward to playing alongside the boys I played with last year and some of our exciting new signings."
