Perry fires Breakers to easy victory

Another century for the star allrounder as Breakers cruise past Meteors

Ellyse Perry continued her good form with an unbeaten century in New South Wales' 97-run Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) victory over the ACT Meteors at Murdoch University in Perth on Sunday.

Perry scored a superb double century for her country in the one off Commonwealth Bank Women’s Ashes Test earlier this month and backed up that effort with another stylish knock against the ACT.

The talented allrounder smashed 13 fours and three sixes in her 120-ball 127 as the LendLease Breakers compiled 7-246 from their 50 overs.

That score was always going to be tough for ACT to chase down, with the Meteors bowled out for 149 in the 43rd over in reply.

Rene Farrell was the pick of the New South Wales bowlers with 4-35, while Sarah Aley (3-26) and Nicola Carey (3-28) also impressed.

It was the Breakers' second WNCL triumph of the weekend, following their seven-wicket victory over Western Fury on Saturday.

The Fury did better than the ACT as they managed 239 batting first against New South Wales, but the Breakers chased that down successfully for the loss of just three wickets and with more than 10 overs in hand.

National performers Alyssa Healy (99) and Alex Blackwell (68) combined for a 165-run partnership at the top of the order, while Perry finished the job with an unbeaten 45.

Amy Jones managed 67 with the bat for Western Fury, while Elyse Villani scored a quickfire 34.

In other matches on Saturday, the Konica Minolta Queensland Fire defeated the South Australian Scorpions by 59 runs and the Victorian Spirit beat the Tasmanian Roar by four wickets.
