Australia’s 2-1 series win over South Africa in the KFC T20 International series exposed some of the country’s finest talent to the big stage for the first time this home summer.

Channel Nine’s Wide World of Sports experts were on hand to cover the three-match series, and have nominated their standout performers.

I liked Cameron Boyce. I like seeing a young leggie coming through. He excited Warnie as well. Aaron Finch as a leader – it was interesting to see him in a different role. And Pat Cummins being back was also a real triumph to the hard work he’s gone through in the last two years to get himself fit. It’s a sign the selectors are targeting him in the short form and quite possible he could make the World Cup squad.

Cameron White was good. His experience showed, and the lack of experience showed in a lot of times, too. Very happy with the experience of (Doug) Bollinger and the fast bowling of Pat Cummins was really impressive.

The return of Pat Cummins was very exciting for Australian cricket. He looked to have good pace, good aggression, particularly down in Melbourne where all the guys bowled with a lot of aggression. I think there were a lot of good performances and considering we’ve got so many gun players sitting on the sidelines as well, I think it really bodes well for the future with the depth of Australian cricket.

Cummins we’ve all known plenty about but just hasn’t been able to play. I felt so sorry for him too, he’s such a good young bloke, Pat Cummins. He’s got so much talent and presence and so much to offer Australian cricket but he just hasn’t been able to play. So in he came and he was getting through at 140kph and we all love that.

It’s hard to go past Cameron White. He was man of the match, and the calmness he showed in a tight game of cricket to get Australia over the line I thought was terrific. Aaron Finch also did a very good job captaining the side. It wouldn’t have been easy with South Africa starting the way they did - they we’re probably 8.5-9 runs per over at one stage with Australia looking down the barrel of chasing 180. He kept in control, got the bowlers to bowl a slightly different length and kept South Africa to a ‘chase-able’ score.
Finch: 91 runs at 45.50 | SR 137.87 | HS 44 not out
