Determined Lynn with a point to prove

The explosive batsman believes he has a lot to offer Australia at an international level and says his best form is not far away

Chris Lynn believes he is still discovering himself as a batsman as he looks to make a long-awaited splash on the international stage in Australia's one-off T20I against South Africa on Saturday night on the Gold Coast.

The Aussies arrived on the Glitter Strip from Brisbane on Friday, where they will play the first-ever men's international at Metricon Stadium, and for Lynn, it represents another chance to replicate the sort of form that has made him one of the biggest drawcards of the KFC Big Bash League.

The explosive right-hander has made a habit of destroying attacks in that domestic competition in recent seasons with the Brisbane Heat, however he has so far been unable to transfer his form to the international arena.

Lynn returned to the ODI team for the first time in almost two years during the recent three-match series against the Proteas, returning scores of 15, 44 and 0. Prior to that, he was in the UAE with Australia's T20I side, and did not pass 20 from four innings.

The 28-year-old has now played 16 white-ball innings for Australia (four ODI, 12 T20I) and has not reached 50.

"Personally I feel like I'm in a good space – I'm hitting the ball well," he said today. "But that's why it's international cricket, it's the best cricket in the world and if you don't rock up with your A-game, then you're going to get sorted out, and South Africa have certainly been on top of their A-game.

"I still want to prove my point in (both international and) domestic cricket – every time you step out onto the ground you want to do as best as you possibly can.

"I still feel I've got a lot to offer in international cricket. The dominoes haven't lined up yet but I think it's not far off."

While Lynn's recent form with Australia might not have been up to scratch, he only has to look back to the recent JLT One-Day Cup for a shot of confidence; in that 50-over tournament, he was the leading run-scorer with 452 runs at 75.33 and a strike-rate of 117.70.

Lynn continues red-hot form with 68 against SA

It was a series of performances that earned him his ODI recall and had many penciling him in as Australia's X-factor at next year's World Cup.

But he says the step up to international level – against world No.1 Pakistan in the T20Is and against a South Africa attack led by Dale Steyn and Kagiso Rabada – has been an ongoing lesson.

"There's no easy overs, no easy games," he said. "I'm loving every minute of it.

"You're working out very quickly who you are as a player, and where you've got to get better.

"You don't get better overnight, I believe, so it's going to take a while to adjust (to international cricket), but the changeroom's happy and we're working our asses off."
