WA duo find form as Yorkshire fight

Shaun Marsh and Hilton Cartwright impress as Yorkshire fight against Peter Siddle's Essex

Western Australian duo Shaun Marsh and Hilton Cartwright impressed in Saturday's County Championship action, while South African opener Aiden Markram registered his third consecutive duck for his new side, Durham.

Scorecard: Glamorgan v Kent in Cardiff

After 19 wickets fell on the first day of Glamorgan's clash with Kent in Cardiff, Marsh led the home side's recovery with an impressive innings of 73, including 10 fours and a six.

The left-hander was particularly strong through the off side as he and opener Jack Murphy shared a century stand at better than four runs an over before the Australian was run out within reach of his second hundred of the season.

Marsh was called through for an improbable run and caught short by a direct hit before Glamorgan finished the day on 9-273, a lead of 193.

Marsh had made just 5 in Glamorgan's first innings of 94 before Kent replied with 174.

At Hove, Cartwright found form with the ball for Middlesex against Sussex, the right-armer taking 3-45 having been dismissed for just 4 on day one.

Scorecard: Sussex v Middlesex at Hove

The allrounder trapped Danny Briggs lbw for 23 and bowled Ben Brown for 7 before an unplayable lifting delivery caught the edge of Michael Burgess and was caught at slip.

Middlesex finished the day on 2-64 in their second innings, trailing by 29 runs.

In Durham, Proteas star Markram registered his third duck from as many innings as his first ever run in county cricket continued to elude him.

Markram earned himself an unusual and unwanted piece of history by being dismissed twice without scoring on the same day of his Durham debut last month and he added a third duck from as many innings on Saturday as an unplayable delivery from Ben Raine clattered into his stumps.

The home side finished the day in trouble on 7-142 in reply to Leicestershire's first innings of 440.

At Chelmsford, Peter Siddle finished with match figures of 8-72 as Yorkshire launched a strong fightback to give themselves a chance at an unlikely victory against Essex.

Siddle takes 4-7 as 22 wickets fall on day one

Siddle took 4-7 in Yorkshire's first innings of 50 on day one and completed second-innings figures of 4-65 on day two as a superb 124 from 19-year-old Harry Brook lifted Yorkshire to 329.

After failing in the first innings, star Yorkshire duo Cheteshwar Pujara (41) and Joe Root (35) shared crucial stands with Brook before both players were bowled, Pujara out after leaving one from Siddle that hit halfway up off stump.

Scorecard: Essex v Yorkshire at Chelmsford

Yorkshire then reduced the hosts to 4-97 in reply with Essex still 140 runs away from a victory that looked a near certainty after Yorkshire's record low score on Friday.
