A comprehensive wrap of David Warner's remarkable performances for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2016

848 – The number of runs David Warner accumulated in IPL 2016, the most by an Australian and second most by any batsman in a T20 tournament behind only Virat Kohli (973 runs, also in IPL 2016). Warner batted 17 innings for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the tournament and yielded 848 runs with the help of nine fifties. Among Australians he went past his former teammate Mike Hussey who compiled 733 runs for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2013.

1033 – The number of runs he has scored in T20s in 2016, just the second batsman after Virat Kohli with 1000-plus runs this year. It is third time that he has amassed 1000 or more runs in a calendar year. Previously he had scored in four digits in 2010 and 2011. The only other batsman with 1000 runs in a year on three or more occasions is Chris Gayle who remarkably has done it five times.

34 – The number of 50-plus innings Warner has in IPLs, the most by any batsman. The next best is Gautam Gambhir with 31 fifties. Overall he has 59 fifty-plus scores in his T20 career, just below Gayle (74).

24 – The number of balls he needed to reach 50 in the final against RCB, making it the joint-fastest 50 in the finals of the competition’s history. CSK’s Suresh Raina had also reached it off 24 balls against Mumbai Indians in 2010. It was also the first time that Warner smashed a 50 in the final of a T20 tournament. Previously he had featured in three finals – one each in CLT20, T20 Big Bash and World T20 – but didn’t have a fifty.

9 – The number of times he has raced to 50 at a Strike Rate of 200-plus (i.e 50 in 25 balls or less) in IPLs, the most by any batsman. AB de Villiers has done it on seven and Virender Sehwag on six occasions.

36 – The number of instances when Warner has finished as the top scorer of the innings in IPL matches, the equal-most along with Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma. The Indian duo has been the team’s highest scorer on 36 occasions as well. Warner however has done it in just 100 innings compared to Gambhir’s 131 and Sharma’s 138.

88 – The number of fours Warner hit in IPL 2016, the most by a batsman in a T20 tournament/series breaking record of James Vince who hit 87 boundaries for Hampshire in the England’s T20 tournament in 2015. The previous IPL record was 86 fours by Mumbai Indians’ Sachin Tendulkar in 2010.  Warner hit eight boundaries in the final against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday night and surpassed both Vince and Tendulkar.

684 – The number of fours Warner has hit in his T20 career, the second most by any batsman and just seventeen shots away from the record holder Chris Gayle who has 701 fours. Warner during the course of his 69 in the IPL final 2016 toppled his compatriot Brad Hodge (681 fours).

11 – The number of consecutive innings in two digits (i.e at least 10 runs) by David Warner in IPL 2016, the second longest streak this season and just one behind his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan who scored ten or more runs in 12 consecutive innings before getting a duck in the last play-off. Warner’s last eleven innings in the tournament read (most recent first): 69, 93*, 28, 18, 73, 52, 46, 11, 48, 24 and 92.

14 – The number of man-of-the-match award Warner has bagged in the IPL, the most by a player from Australia and fourth most overall behind AB de Villiers (15), Yusuf Pathan (16), Chris Gayle (17).

52.70 – The percentage of his career runs that he has scored in India. Of 6868 runs in T20 cricket, he has scored 3620 in India. Four out of his five centuries in T20s also came in India – two each in IPL and Champions League T20.

3 – The number of nervous 90s he has. In the 2016 edition he was dismissed in the nineties for the third time in his IPL career, the equal-most along with Kings XI Punjab’s Glenn Maxwell. In addition to the three nervous 90s, Warner also has two not out innings in the 90s. Interestingly, he has 16 centuries in Tests and never been dismissed in the 90s.

1 – The number of Australians who have been out ‘Hit Wicket’ in IPL matches. Warner became the first Aussie to have this rare mode of dismissal when he went deep into his crease and knocked off the stumps off Kings XI Punjab’s bowler Axar Patel after scoring 52 at Mohali. He is also the first opening batsman to fall in this fashion in IPLs.
