Warner announces new T20 club

Blazing opener will head to Asia in the new year for more T20 cricket

David Warner will take his T20 talents to Bangladesh after today announcing he has signed with Sylhet Sixers in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Warner himself revealed he had signed with the Sixers on the club's official Facebook page and is set to take part in the seven-team tournament that runs from January 5 to February 8.

"I’m very excited to let you know that I'm now a Sixer. I can’t wait to be a part of the Sylhet Sixers family. See you soon!" Warner said in the video.

The Sixers are the third T20 franchise the 31-year-old has signed for this year while he serves a 12-month ban for his involvement in the Cape Town ball-tampering scandal.

In June-July, Warner played in the inaugural Global T20 tournament in Canada before he travelled to the West Indies to play in the Caribbean Premier League.

Sandwiched between those competitions was a brief stint in the NT Strike League and he has returned to NSW Premier Cricket for Randwick-Petersham to start the home summer.

Warner and suspended teammate Steve Smith have continued to play club cricket and have been training at Moore Park with the NSW Blues squad.

The pair are set to clash in round five of Premier Cricket on November 10 at Coogee Oval.

While the ban handed down by Cricket Australia precludes Warner from playing international or domestic cricket in Australia, he is permitted to play club cricket and in foreign competitions.

Warner's year-long ban is set to conclude at the end of March next year, which would allow him to play in the Indian Premier League before the World Cup and Ashes series, which are both set to be staged in the United Kingdom.
