Perry positive about finals future

Ace allrounder and Sixers skipper feeling good about her injury setback

Sydney Sixers captain Ellyse Perry remains positive she will be back in action for the Rebel WBBL finals just days after sustaining a right shoulder injury at Drummoyne Oval.

Perry suffered a low-grade AC joint tear to her bowling shoulder after falling awkwardly attempting a catch in Sunday's thrilling final-ball loss to the Melbourne Renegades.

Following a medical assessment, it was deemed Perry would be out for up to three weeks, but with the finals starting December 7 Perry is optimistic of being fully fit should her side qualify.

"I think everyone is pretty positive about (playing in the finals)," Perry told reporters today in Sydney.

"It's hard to put a definite time frame on it because each day it's going to improve hopefully.

"I'm not worried about it all, I don't think anybody really is.

"With everything going well I should be available toward the end of the season, firstly if we make it and secondly if everything goes the way it's supposed to."

Renegades take revenge in last-ball thriller

Perry is one of Australian cricket's most gifted athletes but it was her athleticism that contributed to her suffering the untimely injury.

Fielding on the long-on rope to off-spinner Erin Burns, Perry leaped in the air attempting to intercept a lofted drive from the bat of Courtney Webb.

However, Perry was unable to reel in the ball, landing and rolling on her right shoulder over the boundary rope.

The Sixers skipper clutched her damaged wing immediately and although she showed little pain, she immediately knew something was not right.

"I sort of fell awkwardly, it felt a little bit funny and I heard something that didn't sound totally normal," Perry explained.

"It wasn't terrible at all. I suppose in that sense I just really wanted to finish the game and it ended up being an amazing game and we seem to have those kind of clashes against the Renegades."

Healy hammers hundred at the WACA

Perry stayed on the field but did not bowl out her remaining overs as Webb hit the final ball of the match for six to clinch the nail-biting win.

With Perry out, wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy will captain the Sixers.

Healy was at the helm the last time the Sixers won the WBBL title in 2016-17 having been given the job just two games out from the grand final after Perry suffered a hamstring injury against, of all teams, the Renegades.

While the Sixers have been one of the teams to beat under Perry's leadership, the injured skipper says Healy will "do her own thing" in charge.

"She's got her own style and flair," Perry said.

"She's a wonderful leader in the group and when I'm playing she's very much front and centre of the way that we do things.

"I lean on her a lot. She's done the job before – she's captained us to a title a couple of years ago.

"The girls absolutely love working under her and I'm really looking forward to seeing how she goes tonight."
