Richardson, Short return for final ODI

Both sides make changes as Australia look to avoid first 5-0 whitewash against England

Australia have recalled fast bowler Kane Richardson and left-hander D'Arcy Short for the fifth ODI in Manchester as they aim to prevent their first 0-5 series defeat against England.

Richardson has returned to bolster the bowling line-up while Short will bat in the middle order. Michael Neser and Jhye Richardson are the players to miss out, meaning Australia will field four frontline bowlers having selected five in previous games.

The hosts have made three changes, handing a debut to left-arm quick Sam Curran, and bringing back Liam Plunkett as well as Jake Ball. David Willey, Mark Wood and Craig Overton all miss out.

Australia captain Tim Paine won the toss for the fifth time in the series and elected to bat first.

The Aussies have stuck with two spinners, left-armer Ashton Agar and off-spinner Nathan Lyon, while Aaron Finch and Travis Head will again open the batting.

Match wrap: Red-hot England take 4-0 lead

The world's No.1 ranked ODI side, England have won seven of their past 10 one-dayers played in Manchester, and the tourists are under no illusion of the task confronting them.

"You're right, we have been outplayed, that's the truth," Agar said.

"All we can do now is focus on us and look to improve in every area possible - batting, bowling, fielding.

"We've had the meetings - we've had really good open and honest discussions with each other, staff, players, everyone.

"We've addressed what we think we might need to work on and put that into practice tomorrow and try to get a better result.

In Case You Played and Missed It: Fifth ODI

"I don't think we feel a huge amount of pressure to prevent the whitewash. We just know we can play better."

As well as pride, Australia have a white-ball ranking to fight for; defeat would see them finish the series sixth in the world, their lowest in 34 years.
