Meg Lanning (Melbourne Stars)
M: 13 | Runs: 502 | Ave: 45.63 | SR: 120.09 | HS: 97*| 50s: 5
The ‘Megastar’ once again showed why she is the top batter in world cricket. The Stars skipper was the leading run scorer for the second consecutive season as she plundered fours and sixes throughout the tournament. Adjudged player of the match on four occasions, Lanning continues to mesmerize with her scintillating stroke play, never more so than during her brilliant 97 against the Heat at Allan Border Field.
Beth Mooney (Brisbane Heat)
M: 14 | Runs: 469 | Ave: 46.90 | SR: 116.39 | HS: 78* | 100s: 1
Brisbane's wicketkeeper-opener has been one of the WBBL's most consistent openers, and she continued to deliver in the second edition of the tournament. Mooney was the backbone of the Heat's innings on several occasions, including her 75no in Saturday's must-win game against the Strikers, when she smashed 12 fours and a six in one the the best innings of the tournament. To round it off, she also snared 12 dismissals including 10 stumping’s to just pip Sixers star Alyssa Healy as the wicketkeeper in our team.
Ellyse Perry (Sydney Sixers)
M: 13 | Runs: 384| Ave: 38.40 | SR: 95.76 | HS: 61* | 50s: 1
W: 5 | Ave: 48.60 | Econ: 6.23 | BBI: 1-11
The Sixers skipper once again staked her claim as the best allrounder in the game with another phenomenal season. Opening the batting, Perry played the steadying role to perfectly match Healy's fireworks and her consistent efforts went a long way to propelling the Sixers to the top of the WBBL|02 ladder. Perry’s match awareness, composure and ability to execute under pressure was a feature of her tournament. While Perry didn’t pick up as many wickets with the ball as many may have expected, her aggression with the new ball along with her ability to bowl yorkers at the end of the innings were second to none.
Ashleigh Gardner (Sydney Sixers)
M: 14 | Runs: 391 | Ave: 30.70 | SR: 121.05 | HS: 56* | 50s: 3
W: 8 | Ave: 28.25 | Econ: 7.09 | BBI: 2-7
Undoubtedly the emerging player of WBBL|02, Gardner shone in a side featuring the likes of Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy, Sara McGlashan, Dane Van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp. Batting at No.3, Gardner's ability to counter attack against some of the world best bowlers was a sight to cherish. Her phenomenal strike rate of 121.05 was only second to Sophie Devine in the competition among the top run scorers and she also managed to claim eight wickets with her wily off-spinners, nominated player of the match twice during the season.
Sophie Devine (Adelaide Strikers)
M: 9 | Runs: 270 | Ave: 38.57 | SR: 135.09 | HS: 103* | 100s: 5
The Strikers master blaster used her brute strength, amazing hand speed and exceptional eye to launch deliveries over the ropes at will during the season. In a tournamernt where Devine hit 13 sixes, her brutal assault against the Hurricanes in Glenelg, where she blasted eight sixes in an innings on her way to a 48-ball hundred will live long in memory.
Jess Jonassen (Brisbane Heat)
M: 14 | Runs: 211 | Ave: 21.10 | SR: 97.23 | HS: 32 | 50s: 0
W: 18 | Ave: 14.11 | Econ: 4.88 | BBI: 3-12
The Heat allrounder has been sensational throughout the tournament with her accurate left-arm spin. Opening the bowling in most matches, Jonassen was able to tie down the batters and also pick up wickets at will. Jonassen is one of only two bowlers with an economy rate below five in the tournament. Her 18 wickets also puts her fourth on the leading wicket takers in WBBL|02. Add to that her 211 runs, Jonassen is an automatic selection in the middle order.
Katherine Brunt (Perth Scorchers)
M: 14 | W: 10 | Ave: 27.50 | Econ: 5.18 | BBI: 2-14
Runs: 181 Ave: 22.62 | SR: 136.09 | HS: 41 | 50s: 0
The fiery pace bowler from England started the tournament slowly but rose to prominence with some aggressive fast bowling to propel the Scorchers to the finals. Brunt’s aggression along with her ability to move the ball through the air rattled a few top orders during the season. Brunt also showed her capabilities with the bat, often striking the ball long and high over the ropes in some crucial innings for the Scorchers.
Marizanne Kapp (Sydney Sixers)
M: 10 | W: 12 | Ave: 15.91 | Econ: 4.79 | BBI: 2-13
Wickets: 12, Avg: 15.91, Eco: 4.79, BB: 2-13
The South African’s probing new-ball spells have been the feature of WBBL|02. Kapp has swung the ball on a consistent basis to skittle top orders and also bowled with supreme control as reflected in her economy rate of 4.79, the best of any bowler in the tournament. She has also managed to contribute for the Sixers in the lower order with couple of classic cameos with the bat.
Sarah Aley (Sydney Sixers)
M: 14 | W: 23 | Ave: 12.78 | Econ: 5.69 | BBI: 3-13
The WBBL|02 leading wicket taker was the go-to bowler for the Sixers skipper Perry in all circumstances and on each occasion Aley came through with remarkable success. Bowling stump to stump, mixing up her pace with a well-disguised slower ball and her ability to execute under pressure meant Aley was among the first players picked in this team.
Kristen Beams (Melbourne Stars)
M: 7 | W: 11 | Ave: 12.63 | Econ: 5.34 | BBI: 3-11
The leg-spinner spinner was a revelation for the Stars since returning from a finger injury halfway through the tournament. Beams' ability to bowl during the power play and her mixed bag of sliders, top-spinners and leg-spinners has seen her cause plenty of headaches for batters throughout the latter part of the season. She has been miserly while also regularly collecting big wickets for the Stars during crucial periods.
Molly Strano (Melbourne Renegades)
M: 14 | W: 21 | Ave: 14.80 | Econ: 5.92 | BBI: 3-16
The Renegades off-spinner played all 14 games and was the second leading wicket taker in WBBL|02. The fact that Strano only went wicket-less on three occasions during the tournament showcased her consistency with the ball while her ability to deceive the batters in the air and off the pitch made her one of the most difficult bowlers to face in WBBL|02.
