Khawaja, Cummins jump up ICC charts

Career-best rankings for Usman Khawaja and Pat Cummins after Australia's stunning ODI series win in India

Usman Khawaja’s heroics with the bat and Pat Cummins’ efforts with the ball in Australia’s historic ODI series win over India have resulted in staggering leaps the International Cricket Council’s one-day rankings.

Khawaja, who scored 383 runs across the five-match series, leapt 83 places to a career-best 25th in the batting charts.

The Australian opener scored 50, 38, 104, 91 and 100 across the five matches as his team fought back from a 2-0 deficit to claim the series.

His efforts have not only contributed to what will be a welcome headache for Australian selectors as Steve Smith and David Warner approach the end of their year-long bans, it also means the left-hander is now Australia’s second-highest ranked ODI batsman behind Aaron Finch (who is 21st).

Cummins has climbed 13 places to seventh overall - also a career-best position - in the bowling rankings, overtaking injured pair Josh Hazlewood (12th) and Mitchell Starc (20th) to become Australia’s highest-ranked ODI bowler.

The paceman picked up 14 wickets across the series in India, relishing the chance to take on the new ball.

Another Australian to benefit from the series victory was Marcus Stoinis, who jumped 15 places to 29th in the batting rankings, while he remained 15th in the allrounder charts.

India skipper Virat Kohli has strengthened his place at the top of the batting rankings after scoring two tons against Australia, while Proteas opener Quinton de Kock has climbed to fourth after scoring 353 runs in five matches. Captain Faf du Plessis rose to fifth after striking 272 runs.

New Zealand’s Martin Guptil moved into the top 10 after scoring 264 runs in three matches, jumping 10 places to ninth.

In the bowling rankings, New Zealand quick Trent Boult climbed to second after taking six wickets against Bangladesh, while veteran Imran Tahir rose seven places to fourth after claiming nine wickets against Sri Lanka.
