India pace star returns for T20 series

Jhulan Goswami recovers from a heel injury to take her place in India's squad for the T20 tri-series

India will regain the services of pace great Jhulan Goswami for the T20I tri-series against Australia and England later this month, the BCCI has announced.

Goswami suffered a bruised heel during India’s ODI series in South Africa last month and has been sidelined for the ongoing one-day series against Australia, but the 35-year-old will make her return for the hosts’ first 20-over match on March 22.

Her return is a boost for India's pace stocks, after they claimed a 4-1 T20I series win against the Proteas without their pace spearhead.

The series promises to be a challenging test for all three teams ahead of the ICC World T20 in the Caribbean this November.

India won their most recent 20-over series against Australia, in early 2016, while England also walked away 2-1 series winners over the Southern Stars during the T20I leg of the Commonwealth Bank Women’s Ashes last November.

India’s 15-player T20I squad features four different faces from the one-day group currently playing Australia in Vadodara.

Alongside Goswami, inclusions include allrounder Anuja Patil, who captained India A in two warm-up games against Lanning’s team in Mumbai, wicketkeeper Taniya Bhatia and Rumeli Dhar.

England named their squad for the tri-series earlier this month, with their own pace spearhead Katherine Brunt to miss the series with a back injury sustained during the Rebel WBBL.

Also missing will be wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor, who has been rested.

The T20I series will begin at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium on March 22 when Australia take on India.
