India spin stars rested for Australia ODIs

India reveal squad for the opening three ODis, with spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to be rested

Australia won't have to face India's star duo Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja for the first three matches of their upcoming ODI series, with the spin pair again rested for the start of the series.

Ashwin and Jadeja were left out of the ODI squad that recently thrashed Sri Lanka 5-0 and selectors have again opted against picking them to take on the Aussies.

INDIA ODI SQUAD: Virat Kohli (c), Rohit Sharma (vc), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami.

Ashwin and Jadeja took 46 wickets between them in the four-match Border-Gavaskar Test series at the start of the year, but have been out of favour in white-ball cricket.

Ashwin was dropped during the ICC Champions Trophy in June and Jadeja in the series against the West Indies in July, although selectors say the pair have been rested for the Australia series, not dropped.

"The team for the three ODIs against Australia has been selected in line with the rotation policy of the Board and accordingly R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested," selection chairman MSK Prasad said in a statement.

"The team’s performance during the Sri Lanka tour was outstanding and players like Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal, who performed very well are being given an extended run and this will in turn supplement our approach, to build a strong reserve strength, as we prepare for forthcoming tours."

Kohli, Dhoni make history in Indian clean sweep

Ashwin will instead continue playing red-ball cricket for with Division Two outfit Worcestershire in England, where he's collected eight wickets in two matches so far.

The only changes to the squad that beat Sri Lanka are the recalls handed to star pacemen Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami - who were rested for that series - with paceman Shardul Thakur making way.
