'We are moving on': Dhoni left out again

India announce their Test and T20 squads for their series against Bangladesh, with MS Dhoni missing again

India's chief selector says the national side are "moving on" from legendary wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni after the veteran was again overlooked for next month's T20 series against Bangladesh.

Dhoni, who has retired from Test cricket but not limited-overs internationals, has not played for India since their World Cup exit in July; he was "rested" for their one-day series against the West Indies in August and then not selected for the recent home T20s against South Africa.

After India confirmed the veteran was again left out of their T20 squad for their three matches against Bangladesh, chief selector MSK Prasad gave the strongest indication yet that the 38-year-old is no longer part of their plans.

Vintage Dhoni delivers another win for India

"This is our clear thought process that post World Cup we are focusing on Rishabh Pant only," Prasad said at a media conference.

"I made it very clear post the World Cup that we are moving on. We are giving opportunities to youngsters and see that they establish themselves in the side.

"With Rishabh Pant doing so well and even Sanju Samson coming into the side, I am sure you must be understanding our thought process.

"We definitely had a chat with Dhoni, and he also endorses our view of backing youngsters."

Last week, newly-appointed BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said Dhoni's future would be a topic of conversation when the selection committee met in Mumbai.

However, he said his former teammate would not be forced into retirement.

"What he wants to do, what he doesn't (want) to do … what matters is what Dhoni wants," Ganguly said.

India’s T20 squad was also notable for the absence of skipper Virat Kohli, who will be rested from the series before returning for the two Tests that follow.

Rohit Sharma will lead the T20 side in Kohli’s absence for the matches on November 3, 7 and 10.

Painful dismissal ends South Africa's misery

The first of two Tests will start in Indore on November 14, with the hosts eyeing their 12th consecutive Test series victory at home.

India have retained the squad that completed a 3-0 series sweep of South Africa this week, their fifth win from five matches in the new World Test Championship.

India haven't lost a Test series at home since 2012.
