Holder banned for third Test by ICC

West Indies' inspirational leader rubbed out for Test after again falling foul of over rate regulations

West Indies have suffered a blow in their bid for a Test series sweep over England after the International Cricket Council banned captain Jason Holder.

Holder will miss the third and final Test against England as he serves a one-Test suspension for falling foul of the ICC's strict over rate regulations in the Antigua Test the Windies won by 10 wickets inside three days.

It is the second time Holder has been suspended for a Test by the ICC for captaining a side with a slow over rate. In December 2017, Holder was suspended for the second Test against New Zealand in Hamilton.

Holder was player of the match in the home sides hefty win in Barbados, and his four second-innings wickets on Sunday were integral to his side routing England for 187 and 132 in Antigua.

The Windies' Antigua win saw them take a 2-0 series lead and regain the Wisden Trophy for the first time since 2009.

Holder is the leading run-scorer in the series with 229 at an average of 114.50. He dedicated the second Test victory to the bravery of fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who played on to make a decisive impact despite the death of his mother mid-way through the match.

The third Test in St Lucia starts on Saturday, where the Windies will be led by Kraigg Brathwaite, the vice-captain.

Brathwaite led the Caribbean side in two Tests on the West Indies' tour of Bangladesh last year while Holder was sidelined due to injury.

The Windies have called up 20-year-old Guyanese allrounder Keemo Paul to their squad for what would be his third Test if selected, while highly rated 21-year-old right-arm quick Oshane Thomas, 12th man in the first two Tests, could make his debut.

The Windies played with a four-man pace attack in each of the first two Tests with spin coming from Roston Chase, who was only required to bowl eight overs in Antigua.

The suspension for Holder comes at a time when Windies success has reinvigorated interest in Test cricket in the Caribbean. The Windies last won three Tests in a single series against England in 1998.

South Africa captain Faf du Plessis was also banned for a Test against Pakistan earlier this year
