Archer removed from Hurricanes attack

Hurricanes quick taken out of the attack by umpires after a pair of full tosses and a bouncer

Hobart Hurricanes paceman Jofra Archer has been banned from bowling after just 10 deliveries in dramatic scenes in tonight’s KFC BBL clash at Optus Stadium.

Archer sent down two beamers above waist height against Perth Scorchers, ruling him out of the attack for the remainder of the match under the Big Bash League’s playing conditions.

The 23-year-old Barbados-born fast bowler sent down a slower ball full toss to Sam Whiteman in his first over and received a warning.

His radar was again off on the fourth ball of his second over as he bowled another no ball to Whiteman, resulting in a premature end to his spell.

Archer leaked 19 runs from his 1.4 overs in an indifferent spell as he struggled to maintain consistency.

Whiteman hit Archer for two fours and a six in his first over, the sixth of the innings.

Archer has nine wickets to his name from eight matches in BBL|08 after lighting up the tournament in his debut campaign with the Hurricanes last season.

He is hoping to secure a spot in England’s squad for this year’s World Cup after the England and Wales Cricket Board reduced the national qualification period from seven years to three for players, like Archer, who have arrived in the country after their 18th birthday.

James Faulkner ignited the Hurricanes after they won the bat flip and elected to bowl, claiming three massive wickets in seven balls to reduce to hosts to 3-7.

He removed openers Cameron Bancroft and Michael Klinger for ducks, while Scorchers captain Ashton Turner was dismissed for one.

Whiteman (68 not out), Nathan Coulter-Nile (31 not out) and Hilton Cartwright (29) lifted the Scorchers to 9-177 from their 20 overs.
