Cheeky KP welcomes ego boost
Ahead of his 100th Test England’s Kevin Pietersen has bitten at the bait thrown his way by Brisbane media which labeled him ‘so arrogant not even his own team likes him’.

The South African born batsman had a short but turbulent stint as England captain and courted more controversy after he sent a text message to South African players that included an attack on then England captain Andrew Strauss.
He has been described as a brilliant but difficult cricketer by those who know him best.
Pietersen arrived in Brisbane yesterday with dark sunglasses and headphones on, prompting The Courier-Mail to proclaim on its front page this morning ‘He’s so arrogant not even his own team likes him’.
Pietersen took to Twitter in response, writing ‘Putting me on the front page does wonders for my ego!’ before adding a tongue-in-cheek thank you, complete with a kiss mark to journalist Ben Dorries.
Mick Newell, Nottinghamshire’s director of cricket, believes Pietersen has failed to make the most of his obvious talent.
“Because of the arrogance of the way he plays, there has been an element of boredom to some of his dismissals,” said Newell. “He has never had that mentality of wanting to bat for seven hours.”
However, former England teammates said it was a case of taking the good with the bad when it came to Pietersen.
“Part of his genius is that he can win games from bad positions but the other side to him is that he can frustrate the hell out of you,” said Paul Collingwood, who played 63 Tests with Pietersen.
“Occasionally you have a guy like him who pushes the boundaries and you have to accept he will upset a few people along the way.”
Darren Gough took a young Pietersen under his wing and immediately became fond of his work ethic. “He is an unbelievably hard worker in the nets, and he is up early every morning in the gym.”
While Pietersen has often been accused of alienating himself from teammates, Gough welcomes the honest approach.
“He is the type who if he has something to say will say it, and that upsets people, but if you look beyond the odd bit of arrogance he is a diamond.”
