Marnus reveal's JL's reaction to run-out

Queenslander still feeling a little uneasy over near-comical run-out against Pakistan, which left coach Langer 'not happy'

Marnus Labuschagne admits he's still stewing over that run out in Abu Dhabi.

But the Queenslander also says he owes Azhar Ali a small debt of gratitude for an even more bizarre run out less than 24 hours later in the same Test match.

Labuschagne was run out in incredible fashion on day two of the second Test against Pakistan, when he watched the ball slowly roll into his stumps at the non-striker's end with his bat hovering in the air above the crease.

Brain fade proves costly from Labuschagne

It was labelled a "brain fade" by former Australia batsman Mark Waugh, "extremely silly" by former Pakistan batsman Rameez Raja, and later just plain "dumb" by coach Justin Langer.

Back with the Queensland Bulls ahead of Thursday's second round of JLT Sheffield Shield action, Labuschagne has offered an insight into the fallout in the dressing room.

"What was Justin Langer's reaction? Not happy, not happy by any means," Labuschagne said before flying to Adelaide with the Bulls squad.

"It was not ideal to lose a wicket like that at a key time. That's definitely a learning experience."

Labuschagne returned to the Australia squad's seating and was seen positioned directly behind a seething Langer, a move he now admits was "not one of my finest moments".

"I was very annoyed at myself for a few days, and I still am a bit," he continued.

"There was a good opportunity there to step up for your country.

"It was disappointing but nothing I can do about it now. Just got to put it to bed and move forward."

If there was any saving grace for Labuschagne, it was that Azhar was run out in even more remarkable circumstances the following day as he stood mid-pitch chatting while the Aussies chased down a ball that had stopped short of the rope.

The Pakistani, mistakenly believing it had gone for four, was left dumbstruck by his dismissal, but put on a brave face after play to joke his sons would never let him live it down.

Bizarre scenes in Abu Dhabi as Azhar is run out

"At least there was a few more replays of his than mine," Labuschagne said.

The 24-year-old returns to Shield cricket uncertain of his future in Test cricket after failing to nail down his spot in the side, but said "there were a lot of positive things to take out of the tour, both personally, and as a team".

"My job is to score runs. Justin said it – be a good bloke and score hundreds," Labuschagne said.

"There's no secret, it's not a hidden charm about what's needed, it's pretty clear. My job is to just focus on each match individually. What's happened in the past is irrelevant.

"By no means have I done enough, I need to keep pushing myself in every aspect, continue to score runs and take wickets."

The JLT Sheffield Shield second round starts Thursday with South Australia hosting Queensland at Adelaide Oval, Victoria meeting NSW at the MCG and Western Australia facing Tasmania at the WACA. All matches will be live streamed on cricket.com.au and the CA Live app.
