Australia A claim final session win over Lions

Part-time spinners Matt Renshaw and Nic Maddinson took key wickets late in the day at Ian Healy Oval, propelling Australia A to a hard-fought win

Australia A used eight bowlers as they slowly wore down the touring England Lions, who showed some pluck in a mammoth run chase but eventually fell to a 112-run defeat at Brisbane's Ian Healy Oval.

With paceman Josh Hazlewood in doubt for the second Ashes Test in Adelaide starting on Thursday, Michael Neser (2-36 off 14 overs) was used sparingly after taking a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the four-day match.

Mark Steketee, Matthew Renshaw and Mitchell Swepson, who enjoyed a solid return to match play with 46 overs in the second innings, all picked up two wickets.

The Lions made just 103 in the first innings but showed some fight after being set 459 for victory, James Bracey (113) and wicketkeeper Ben Foakes (73) both finding form.

Australian batters Bryce Street (119 not out), Henry Hunt (40), Matthew Renshaw (43), Nic Maddinson (71) and Mitch Marsh (60 not out) all impressed in their second innings on Saturday.
