Buttler regrets fiery exchange in ODI defeat

Bangladesh level series with 24-run win over England in a heated encounter in Dhaka

Stand-in England captain Jos Buttler said he regretted his angry reaction after his dismissal during Sunday’s second one-day international against Bangladesh in Dhaka, which his team lost by 34 runs.

Buttler was staging an England revival and looked threatening with some lusty stroke-play after a three-wicket burst by his Bangladesh counterpart Mashrafe Mortaza left the visitors reeling at 4-26 inside 10 overs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

But when television umpire confirmed the dismissal of Buttler at 57 in England's chase of 8-238, it triggered wild celebration among the Bangladesh fielders.

The on-field umpire had initially turned down the leg-before appeal of Taskin Ahmed against Buttler, but Bangladesh sought a television review, which confirmed that the ball hit him plumb on his back foot and left England 7-123.

Before he left the field, the English skipper was seen engaged in an argument with some of the Bangladeshi players, forcing the umpires to immediately intervene.

"Emotions were running high and obviously (they were) delighted to get the wicket. Maybe I should have just walked off," Buttler said after the match.

"Maybe it’s something in hindsight I was disappointed with the reaction … maybe I should have taken it up (in) a different way."

Buttler was vague when asked if he believed the Bangladeshi fielders had crossed the line during their celebration after his dismissal.

"Potentially, I am sure you guys can judge that for me," he said.

Things get heated between Wade, Shamsi

England were finally all out for 204 but not before last wicket pair Adil Rashid (33 not out) and Jake Ball (28) racked up 45 runs to raise English hopes.

Earlier, man of the match Mortaza hit 44 off 29 balls after Mahmudullah Riyad top-scored with 75 off 88 balls.

Bangladesh were in trouble once Woakes, who finished with 2-40, removed openers Imrul Kayes (11) and Tamim Iqbal (14) in his successive overs to leave the hosts at 2-26.

Ball, man of the match on Friday with five wickets on debut, kept up the pressure when he bowled Sabbir Rahman for three.

Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim put on 50 for the fourth wicket to steady the innings before Ball struck again.

Rahim, who made 21, top-edged the paceman to fine leg where Moeen Ali took a superb catch.

Bangladesh's woes were compounded when star allrounder Shakib Al Hasan departed for three after gloving a delivery from Ben Stokes down the leg side to wicketkeeper Buttler.

Mahmudullah and Mosaddek Hossain lifted their side from a precarious 5-113 with a 48-run sixth-wicket stand before leg-spinner Rashid struck.

Rashid trapped Mahmudullah leg-before to end a fine innings, which came off 88 balls with six fours.

Rashid then had Mosaddek (29) caught by Ali in his next over to derail Bangladesh's innings again.

Mortaza came to the rescue with his quick-fire 44 which included two fours and three sixes.

Nasir Hossain, brought in to replace left-arm spinner Mosharraf Hossain in Bangladesh's only change from the opening match, gave Mortaza good support with 27 not out.

Ball claimed 2-44 while Rashid finished with 2-53.

The third and final ODI will be played in Chittagong on Wednesday.
