Scorchers burn the Heat in WBBL

A dominant display from England star Nat Sciver set the tone before the Scorchers bowlers backed it up to seal victory over Brisbane

Perth Scorchers have begun their bid to go one step further than last season's Rebel WBBL runners-up finish with a comfortable 18-run win over Brisbane Heat at North Sydney Oval.

The Scorchers posted an impressive 6-188 from their 20 overs, built around English allrounder Nat Sciver's 84 from 46 deliveries.

In reply, Brisbane Heat commenced a challenging run-chase in disastrous fashion slipping to 3-38.

In-form opener Beth Mooney looked dangerous hitting 13 off the opening over but popped up a simple catch to end her innings of 23 off 12 balls.

South African No.3 Laura Wolvaardt was run out without facing a ball, while Brisbane's other import Deandra Dottin was bowled for just 10, leaving the Heat requiring 110 off their final 10 overs.

Delissa Kimmince kept the Heat innings together with an aggressive innings of 87 not from 54 balls to help her side reach 9-170.

Earlier, Sciver made the most of North Sydney's Oval's short boundaries with her big-hitting knock including three sixes and 11 boundaries.

Lauren Ebsary chipped in with an unbeaten 37 from 20 balls to close out the innings.

The Heat used seven bowlers in an attempt to rein in the run-rate, with former Australian representative Holly Ferling notably bowling just one over for 17 runs.
