Warner, McDermott star in Canada

David Warner's return to form has continued, with the Australian scoring a half-century to help Winnipeg Hawks keep their Canada Global T20 campaign alive.

Warner scored 55 from 36 deliveries to hand his team a strong start in their pursuit of Edmonton's imposing 9-183, before a brilliant unbeaten 65 off 39 from fellow Australian Ben McDermott sealed a seven-wicket victory for the Hawks.

Sent in by Warner, Edmonton got off to a strong start thanks to openers Andre Fletcher (41 off 31) and Luke Ronchi (25 off 14), before some powerful striking from first drop Agha Salman (44 off 18).

In the chase, Warner became a victim of his own power in an incident involving a lost ball. Five overs in, the batsman struck a big six off Wayne Parnell, with the ball disappearing out of the stadium.

The umpires then tried to replace the ball with a brand-new pill, but after Warner objected a slightly older replacement was found following a lengthy delay.

But the hold up didn't stop Warner, the suspended Australia hitting five fours and four sixes on his way to his first half-century of the tournament.  

It came after Warner broke his runs drought on Wednesday, making 42 off 35 balls.

In his return to cricket following the South African ball-tampering scandal, that was the first time in six innings in Toronto that Warner had scored more than six; his previous knocks in the tournament returned scores of 1, 4, 1, 6 and 0.

Winnipeg now meet Vancouver on Saturday for a spot in the final.
