Anderson on song as NZ thrash Pakistan

Corey Anderson's maiden international Twenty20 half-century has been backed up by some excellent fielding in New Zealand's crushing 95-run over Pakistan to claim their T20 series 2-1.

After the tourists were set 197 in Wellington on Friday night, Anderson took two early wickets before limping off with cramp.

When he departed, the Black Caps were already on top, some sharp catching helping to reduce the opposition to 4-36.

Pakistan never recovered and they were bowled out for 101 with almost four overs remaining.

Only keeper Sarfraz Ahmed, with 41, produced a score of any note.

He fell to a catch off Grant Elliott, who finished with the stellar figures of 3-7 with his medium-pacers, while fast bowler Adam Milne wasn't far behind with 3-8.

The result marked the first time a team batting first in a T20 international had won at Westpac Stadium.

Having been sent in, New Zealand finished on 5-196, the highest total in a T20 international at the ground.

Anderson's unbeaten 82 came off 42 balls and he hit 10 boundaries, including four sixes.

Another quick half-century partnership from openers Martin Guptill and skipper Kane Williamson had set the platform for the home side.

Guptill continued his prolific form this summer with a typically aggressive knock.

He peppered the boundaries and raced to 35, and New Zealand to 0-40, after three overs.

But after paceman Wahab Riaz and skipper Shahid Afridi, with his leg breaks, were able to slow down the scoring, Pakistan grabbed two quick wickets.

Afridi had Guptill caught for 42, before new batsman Colin Munro was run out by Mohammad Rizwan's superb side-on direct hit.

Williamson was next to go, caught in the deep off Wahab for 33.

New batsman Ross Taylor then retired hurt after facing four balls, cutting for a boundary before clutching at his left side.

Afridi was the most economical of the Pakistan bowlers with 1-27 from his four overs, while Wahab took 2-43.

It is the fourth successive series that the Black Caps have won at home this summer after beating Sri Lanka in all three formats.

New Zealand and Pakistan remain in Wellington, where will begin a three-match one-day series on Monday at the Basin Reserve.
