Match Recap: Hurricanes defeat Thunder

Hobart Hurricanes moved to third spot on the ladder with a resounding six-wicket win over Sydney Thunder thanks to Amy Satterthwaite's five-wicket haul

Match in a tweet: Satterthwaite claims a hat-trick! On her way to claiming best figures of WBBL|02 to help the 'Canes crush the Thunder in Hobart

The score: Sydney Thunder 9-115 (Blackwell 49, Satterthwaite 5-17) in 20 overs lost to Hobart Hurricanes 4-117 (Burns 38) in 18.2 overs by six wickets.

The hero: Satterthwaite broke the game wide open by finishing with incredible figures of 4-0-17-5. Brought on to bowl with the Thunder looking to up the tempo during the middle overs, Satterthwaite bamboozled the batters with her subtle change of pace and quick turn. The Kiwi claimed two wickets from her initial three overs before returning to the bowling crease in the 19th over of the innings to take a hat-trick.

The hat-trick: Satterthwaite earned herself a special place in WBBL|02 when she claimed the first hat-trick this season. The first wicket came with the fourth ball of her final over when she bowled Naomi Stalenberg. She then had Rene Farrell caught behind trying to cut her quicker ball, before having Lauren Cheatle caught at mid-on to snare three in three balls.

The support cast: Small chases can be tricky at times but not when Erin Burns is on fire at the top of the order. The right-hander made light work of the Thunder total by smashing six fours during the batting power play. Burns hit the ball sweetly from the outset, as she sent the Thunder bowlers on a leather hunt at Blundstone Arena. Burns’ rapid knock of 38 from 33 balls ensured the Hurricanes romped home with 10 balls to spare.

The catch: Wicketkeeper Georgia Redmayne took a stunning one-handed catch down the leg-side to give the Hurricanes an ideal start. Redmayne was quick to move as she pouched Stafanie Taylor's leg glance low to her left.

The consolation act: Coming to the crease in the second over Alex Blackwell was in total command as she blasted her second fifty of WBBL|02. Batting at No.3, Blackwell eased the pressure on her batters by keeping the strike rotating with some deft touches and running hard between the wickets. She then exploded during the latter part of the innings, striking five boundaries in her classy knock of 49 from 50 balls.

The next stop: The Hurricanes host the Stars on Friday while the Thunder travel across the Nullarbor to take on the Scorchers.
