George Bailey has led the Hobart Hurricanes to a 64-run win in their 'Valley Smash' warm-up game against the Melbourne Stars in Traralgon.

D'Arcy Short (38 off 26) and Alex Doolan (40 off 23) handed the Hurricanes a rapid start, while Bailey picked up where Doolan left off when the latter departed, posting his own 31-ball 41.

In reply, the Stars big guns failed to fire, with Ben Dunk (1), Luke Wright (6), Glenn Maxwell (2), Marcus Stoinis (16) and James Faulkner (13) falling cheaply.

Allrounder Evan Gulbis (47 off 31) played a lone hand but it wasn't enough, the home side bowled out for 111.
