Sydney Sixers have suffered a hiccup on the eve of the Rebel WBBL semi-finals, suffering a five-wicket loss to the seventh-ranked Melbourne Stars at the MCG.
Batting first on a good MCG deck, Alyssa Healy charged out of the blocks with 35 off 21 but her dismissal sparked a dramatic collapse, with no other batter reaching double figures as the Sixers were bowled out for 92.
Stars leg-spinner Alana King did the damage with the ball, collecting 3-13 from her four overs in a player-of-the-match display, while fellow wrist spinner Kristen Beams was also outstanding, taking 3-11 from her three overs.
The Sixers struck an immediate blow in reply as they dismissed Stars opener Lizelle Lee for a two-ball duck, but Ange Reakes (22 off 23) and Erin Osborne (34no from 29) did enough to see the hosts home in the 17th over with five wickets in hand.
One positive for the Sixers was the form of star quick Marizanne Kapp, who extracted plenty of movement from a hard MCG surface and finished her four-over spell with figures of 2-9.
The Sixers now return to Sydney, where they'll meet Melbourne Renegades in the semi-finals next Saturday at Drummoyne Oval.
