McDermott guides Tasmania to victory

Ben McDermott scored a magnificent century to help Tasmania to a thrilling victory in Townsville

A maiden one-day cup century from Ben McDermott and a whirlwind eleventh-hour innings from Simon Milenko have lifted Tasmania to a memorable one-day cup victory over Queensland in Townsville.

Momentum swung between both teams during a tense finale at Riverway Stadium on Saturday before the Tigers overhauled the Bulls to reach 6-317 and pass the victory target with six balls to spare.

McDermott, son of former Test paceman Craig McDermott, scored a confident 117 off 125 balls.

McDermott and Jordan Silk (85 from 90 balls) put on 178 for the third wicket to set Tasmania on track for a memorable win only for the visitors to stumble in the middle order.

But medium-pacer Milenko, promoted to No.6, saved the day with a lusty knock of 50 not out off 29 balls, having walked to the crease with his side needing 83 from 61 balls.

Both Milenko and McDermott have previously represented Queensland.

Big Bash star Chris Lynn top-scored for Queensland with a typically entertaining knock of 70 from 65 balls as the home side posted a challenging 6-316.
