Hunt ton salvages SA draw as Sayers bids farewell

Vics and Redbacks call a halt to proceedings early before both sides form a guard of honour for retiring paceman

Henry Hunt scored a century as South Australia salvage a draw against Victoria before both sides paid a fitting tribute to retiring Redbacks paceman Chadd Sayers.

Already locked in for the wooden spoon this season – the fourth consecutive last-place finish for Redbacks - the visitors looked set for some more pain as they slipped to 4-52 and a lead of just 20 on day three.

But Hunt showed he could be one of the players worth building around as he brought up his second century of the season, finding strong support in Jake Lehmann (62) as the pair put on 122 for the fifth wicket.

The opener was eventually out on what became the last ball before the break, bowled by Scott Boland (3-61), but by then the outcome was all but assured.

The Redbacks tail wagged courtesy of debutant Nick Kerber (33) and the departing Sayers (17), who was eventually out to Jon Holland (4-90) in his last appearance, and when the two sides shook hands with SA 9-329, a guard of honour was then formed for the 33-year-old in his 85th first-class appearance.
