Brisbane turns up the Heat in Hobart

Another Beth Mooney batting masterclass has guided Brisbane Heat to an eight-wicket win at Blundstone Arena

Beth Mooney has powered the Brisbane Heat to a comprehensive eight-wicket Rebel WBBL triumph over the winless Hobart Hurricanes.

After restricting the hosts to a modest 4-111 at Blundstone Arena, the Heat made light work of the run chase.

They hauled in the target with 32 deliveries to spare to record their third consecutive triumph.

Match highlights: Heat burns up Hurricanes

The win took Brisbane to eight points, drawing them level with the Adelaide Strikers, Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades on a jam-packed ladder.

Mooney belted the Hurricanes to all parts with an unconquered 62 off 43 balls to move to third spot on the competition's run scoring leaderboard.

Mooney masterclass guides Heat to big win

Opening partner Kirby Short was unluckily run out at the non-striker's end via a deflection off Nicola Hancock's fingertips for 19 and Deandra Dottin holed out for 15, but otherwise the Heat were untroubled.

In contrast to Mooney's pyrotechnics, Hayley Matthews (34) and Georgia Redmayne (20) were steady with the bat for Hobart but were unable to up the scoring rate sufficiently to set a formidable total.

The Hurricanes hit just six boundaries in their 20 overs in the face of some unyielding Heat bowling, piloted by miserly left-arm orthodox tweaker Jess Jonassen (2-17).
