Wade cops $6k fine following BBL final

Hobart Hurricanes wicketkeeper Matthew Wade has been fined $6000 by Cricket Australia for his outburst in Sunday’s KFC Big Bash League final loss in Adelaide.

After being run out for a duck having not faced a ball in Hobart’s run chase, a visibly frustrated Wade slammed his bat in the Hurricanes' dugout before heading to the dressing room.

Wade denied the offence and contested the charge of abusing equipment but the Match Referee Peter Marshall upheld the penalty of a $6000 fine.

Having starred in the BBL semi-final with 71 from 45 balls in the upset win over Perth Scorchers, Wade batted at No.6 in the decider before he was run out in the 18th over as the Strikers won the final by 25 runs.

Hurricanes captain George Bailey said the decision to demote Wade was to have easier access to the short boundary at Adelaide Oval.

"(It was) just a little bit about left-right (handers), there’s a short boundary here," Bailey said.

"So if D'Arcy (Short, a left-hander) had been the first out, Wadey would have gone in and had that impact he has had in the last couple games in the first six.

"But D'Arcy batted well which meant we could try and use Wade at the back end to try and target the short boundary. But the damage was done by that stage."

As it was Wade's second offence in 18 months – he was reprimanded for his send-off of Sydney Thunder import Jos Buttler last month – the gloveman is now $6,000 lighter in the pocket.

Meanwhile, Sydney Sixers wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy has been reprimanded by CA for her send-off of Perth Scorchers captain Elyse Villani in the Rebel Women’s Big Bash League final.

After Healy successfully stumped Villani in Perth’s innings, the 'keeper clapped in the face of the stranded batter and later admitted when mic'd up during her own bating innings she expected to get in trouble for the action.

Healy admitted the offence to Match Referee Darryl Harper and accepted the sanction.

Wade joins the Heat's Joe Burns to be stung with a $6,000 after the Brisbane batsman was done for using offensive language the controversial BBL loss to Hobart last month.

Burns was in the Heat dugout when teammate Alex Ross was ruled out obstructing the field in the 17th over of Brisbane’s run chase at the Gabba.

The 28-year-old was reported for using "language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during a match".

Burns denied the offence and pleaded not guilty but Match Referee Bob Stratford concluded he was guilty.

As it was Burns' second offence in the past 18 months, he was whacked with a $6,000 fine.

In November last year, Burns was charged for breaching the CA Code of Conduct in a JLT Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania in Hobart, where he was reported for "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match".
