Position: 7th

Wins: 5 Losses: 9

Highest total: 4-163 v Scorchers, December 26

Highest individual score: Lizelle Lee, 76 v Scorchers

WBBL|03 season highlights: Stars

Best individual bowling figures: Erin Osborne, 4-20 v Heat; Annabel Sutherland, 4-20 v Strikers

Highlights: Nothing could have topped their Super Over victory over local rivals the Renegades. 'Gades skipper Amy Satterthwaite scored a six off the final ball and took it to a tie-breaker, and scores were still locked after the Super Overs, with the Stars winning on a countback. Another highlight for the Stars was taking out the Melbourne Derby double.

Lizelle Lee highlights: WBBL|03

Bowling ace: Erin Osborne came across from the Thunder and was the Stars' most successful bowler in WBBL|03, picking up 15 wickets at 22.60, including a best of 3-17.

Batting star: Lizelle Lee came in at the top of the order and provided some fireworks, scoring three half-centuries for the tournament. The Stars would have liked the South African to be a bit more consistent but her performances were typical Lee: go hard or go out. Either way, it was exciting and her 349 runs came with the strike rate of 111.14.

On the rise: Annabel Sutherland is one to watch. In just seven matches for the Stars she captured nine wickets at 12.88, including 4-20 against the Strikers, and could have big things in her future.

What they need for WBBL|04: A star pace bowler. They could have one in the making in Sutherland, but she's only 16 and can't be relied upon just yet to consistently terrorise other teams in the manner of a Marizanne Kapp or a Lea Tahuhu.

In a nutshell: The Stars did about as well as anyone would have predicted at the start of the season after the loss of Meg Lanning to the Scorchers and the changes to their list with Emma Inglis and Jess Duffin crossing town to the Renegades. But the Stars have potential in their squad and new recruits Lee and Osborne were particularly good, they just need to secure one or two superstars to take them to the next level.
