County wrap: Hogan leads Aussie pack

Evergreen quick claims another five-wicket haul but Australia's batsmen all miss out

Veteran paceman Michael Hogan claimed the 21st five-wicket haul of his career to be the best of the Australian contingent in Sunday's County Championship action.

Hogan claimed 5-49 for Glamorgan against Middlesex, including the wicket of his former Western Australia teammate, Hilton Cartwright, who continued his disappointing start to the season with five as his side was bowled out for 194.

Irishman Tim Murtagh led Middlesex's reply with the ball, claiming 4-12 ahead of a likely Test debut against Pakistan next month as Glamorgan slipped to 4-38.

Shaun Marsh was one of Murtagh's victims, trapped lbw for four.

At Hove, Redbacks quick Daniel Worrall took 4-45 to go with first-innings figures of 2-40 as Gloucestershire bowled out Sussex for 204, before reaching 6-108 at stumps in pursuit of 167 in what is shaping up as a thrilling final day.

In Division One, Worrall's South Australian teammate Joe Mennie made an unbeaten 68 in Lancashire's 9-439dec, though he went wicket-less (0-47 from 16) as Surrey's reply reached 9-231.

Matthew Renshaw was unable to continue his terrific run of form in Somerset's second innings, bowled for eight as his side set Yorkshire 321 to win at Taunton, with the visitors 1-49 in response.

Victorian Peter Siddle claimed 2-48 for Essex, including the key wicket of Hashim Amla for 52, as Hampshire reached 4-241 in the first innings of a rain-marred encounter.

At New Road, England eyes were on the return of Test quick Stuart Broad, who claimed 3-28 in his first outing for Nottinghamshire of the season, though he was outdone by fellow paceman Luke Fletcher, who took 5-27 as Worcestershire were skittled for 110.

Travis Head was second top-scorer with 33, alongside England hopeful Joe Clarke (42). At stumps, Notts reached 6-204.
