Neser takes out Ian Healy Trophy

Zippy allrounder takes out top prize at Queensland's awards night, while Delissa Kimmince named Fire player of the year

Bulls allrounder Michael Neser has taken out the top gong at the Queensland’s end-of-season awards night, receiving the prestigious Ian Healy Trophy on Friday.

Neser was named the myFootDr Queensland Bulls player of the year for the first time in his career after a solid summer in both the Sheffield Shield and the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup.

Queensland's awards mark the end of the domestic awards season, with all states now having awarded their top awards to the 2016-17 shining lights.

The 27-year-old picked up 18 wickets in seven Shield games this summer and came into his own during the second half of the season with the introduction of the Dukes balls, which aided his ability to swing the ball both ways.

A more-than-handy lower-order batsman, Neser also scored 302 Shield runs at 30.20, while he was the joint-leading wicket-taker for Queensland in the Matador Cup, collecting 10 wickets at 27.40.

In the final of the one-day competition in October, the South Africa-born paceman gave eventual-winners NSW a fright when he removed their top-three within the first six overs.

The 27-year-old was the second leading run-scorer behind Beth Mooney and the second leading wicket-taker in another consistent season.
