Johnson nominates his best delivery

Pace ace picks his top wicket in South Africa

Australia spearhead Mitchell Johnson has revealed his favourite dismissal during Australia’s epic 2-1 series win in South Africa.

Speaking to ABC Grandstand radio last week, Johnson said the delivery that removed Faf du Plessis in the first innings of the Centurion Test was his pick of the 22 scalps he claimed on tour.

Many believed the vicious bouncer that struck Hashim Amla was his best of the series, but Johnson was surprised how well the current Proteas skipper handled the knock.

“That actually wasn’t my favourite ball, the Faf du Plessis ball was probably my favourite,” said Johnson.

“It squared him up at good pace.

“That ball to Hashim, he took it pretty well and he kept playing his game after that.

“That’s the thing about Hash, he doesn’t let those things affect him and that’s why he’s such a great batsman.

“A few of the boys commented on how well he took it. He didn’t flinch, but the replays when you see it, (show that it) pushed his helmet right back onto his face, so he was quite lucky there was no damage.

“Normally those things can scar you a little bit, but he just continued to play his way.

“We probably didn’t see him at his best against us, but you could see it didn’t affect him as much as I would’ve liked.”
