Stumpings record in the hands of Dhoni

The India captain has made the most stumpings in international cricket

India captain MS Dhoni added his name to the record books on Friday night when he overtook Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara for the most stumpings in international cricket.

Dhoni produced a brilliant piece of glovework to dismiss Glenn Maxwell during the 12th over of the second Twenty20 international against Australia at the MCG and this helped him draw level with Sangakkara on 139 stumping dismissals.

Then five overs later the India veteran fortuitously edged past the former Sri Lankan captain when the ball ricocheted off his pad and crashed into the stumps to send James Faulkner on his way.

It was the first time Dhoni had managed two stumpings in a T20 innings and just the second time an Indian had managed to do so in a T20 international following Dinesh Karthik's efforts - both off the bowling of Harbhajan Singh - against South Africa during the 2007 World Twenty20 tournament.

It means Dhoni now has a total of 140 stumpings in international cricket and can add to that number when India take on Australia in the third Twenty20 match of the series at the SCG on Sunday.

Interestingly, Dhoni does not lead any individual category for stumpings, with the 34-year-old fourth on the list in Test cricket (38), second in ODI cricket (89) and sixth in Twenty20 cricket (13).

Most stumpings in international cricket:

MS Dhoni - 140

Kumar Sangakkara - 139

Romesh Kaluwitharana - 101

Moin Khan - 93

Adam Gilchrist - 92
