Pick the kit: Vote for Aussie ODI uniform

A fan vote from eight retro kits will decide what the Aussie ODI team wear next summer

UPDATE: VOTING IS NOW OPEN

The Australian Men’s Cricket Team may not have enjoyed the one-day international results they or their supporters wanted this summer, but the retro 1986-inspired kit was a winner with players and fans alike.

So popular was the vintage look that it has been confirmed another retro kit will be worn in next summer's Gillette ODI Series against New Zealand, with the gear from yesteryear to be selected by a fan vote.

Cricket Australia, with the support of kit-maker Asics and sponsor Alinta Energy, are throwing open the choice for the design of 2019-20 men’s one-day uniform to Australia's fans.

Voting will begin on February 20 and will be run in a head-to-head format until there's a final winner from the shortlist of eight uniforms worn by some of the greats of Australian cricket in the golden age between 1981 and 1999.

The winning design will then form the basis of the ODI uniform for the 2019-20 season, which will also feature the logo of CA partner Alinta Energy.

This summer the Aussies wore a green and gold kit that paid homage to the one Allan Border's side wore during a corresponding one-day series against India back in 1986.

The response on social media was overwhelmingly positive and the Aussie players were loving it as well.

"It's pretty awesome actually," paceman Peter Siddle said on the eve of the series.

"We found out the other day we were going to be in it, so the boys were a bit excited to get their pack and open up and check it out. Everyone is very impressed."

Australia's one-day players are now in India for a tour that includes two T20s as well as five ODIs to begin a hectic winter for the white-ball format that will culminate in the World Cup in England in June and July.

While their focus is on the task at hand, to a man they are supportive of the fan vote and are set to join in the public voting across the next week.

Memories of famous moments in Australian cricket history are brought back by these uniforms. Merv Hughes orchestrating Bay 13's exercise regime at the MCG, the epic 1999 World Cup campaign, and continued domination of one-day cricket through the emergence of speedster Brett Lee.

Each day, two famous kits will be presented to fans in all their original glory with votes to be counted across the cricket.com.au website, CA Live app and social media platforms.

From the World Series Cricket strip worn by Greg Chappell's charges in 1981-84 through to the blue-striped kit worn at the turn of the century, there's some great kits to choose from.

World Cup uniforms feature prominently, including the iconic 1992 campaign on home soil, the 1996 tournament where Australia lost in the final to Sri Lanka, and the 1999 strip immortalised by Allan Donald's run out.

Also included in the poll are some lesser-known kits, such as the yachting themed uniform worn in the 1986-87 summer during a quadrangular tournament played at the WACA that featured England, Pakistan and the West Indies. The Perth Challenge was orchestrated as part of a festival of sport and was a key event in the lead-up to the America's Cup defence held off the coast of Fremantle that summer.
