Bulls welcome back Test brigade

Queensland have been bolstered by the return of four Test squad members for their JLT Sheffield Shield clash against South Australia in Adelaide.

Matthew Renshaw, Marnus Labuschagne, Michael Neser and Brendan Doggett have been named in the Bulls 12-man squad for the clash against the Redbacks, starting Thursday.

Dropping out of the squad are Nathan McSweeney, Max Bryant, Sam Truloff and Peter George.

The quartet is a welcome addition to the reigning Shield champions after they were soundly beaten by Tasmania in a rematch of last year's final at the Gabba last week.

Having conceded a 207-run first-innings deficit, the Bulls fought back to bowl the Tigers out for 132 and set themselves a target of 350 to win.

But Jackson Bird's second five-wicket haul of the match put to rest any chance of a dramatic comeback win as the Bulls were dismissed for 93 inside 30 overs to lose by 246 runs. 

Five Queenslanders were selected for Australia's Qantas Tour of the UAE – the four returning players and captain Usman Khawaja, who has been sidelined with a knee injury that has him in doubt for the first Domain Test of the summer against India on December 6.

The clash represents Renshaw's first match since suffering a head knock while fielding in Australia's tour game in Dubai last month.

The blow forced Renshaw out of the match and given his lack of match practice, the 22-year-old was ruled of contention, which led to teammate Labuschagne making his Test debut.

Renshaw put that disappointment behind him on the weekend to post 145 from 174 balls for Toombul in Queensland's Premier Cricket competition.

It took the left-hander nearly an hour to trouble the scorers before racing to his century from 130 balls. He finished the day with 16 fours and four sixes.

Labuschagne was perhaps more effective as a bowler on his maiden Test tour, finishing the series as Australia's second-highest wicket-taker behind chief spinner Nathan Lyon with seven wickets.

While he made a second-ball duck in his debut innings, he bettered his previous best in each knock and concluded the series with a gutsy 43 in Abu Dhabi.

Neser and Doggett failed to earn a Test call-up and will be looking to mount their case for home selection with a swag of wickets, starting with the Redbacks on Thursday.
