Queensland finalise '18-19 contract list

Chris Lynn expected to feature despite not being given Bulls deal, as reigning Sheffield Shield champions promote two rookies

Batting powerhouse Chris Lynn is set to play a role for Queensland in one-day cricket later this year despite not being contracted by the Bulls for the second season in a row.

Lynn opted against taking a full Bulls contract last summer as he continued his recovery from a serious shoulder injury, which meant he was never likely to feature for Queensland in one-day and first-class cricket.

While he is fit again and aiming to play in the JLT One-Day Cup to start the 2018-19 campaign, it's again been decided to give a contract to a young player instead of the injury-plagued right-hander.

Veteran allrounder Ben Cutting, who announced his retirement from first-class cricket last month, and former ODI batsman Peter Forrest have both lost their contracts from last season.

But like Lynn, it's expected that Cutting will play a role during the JLT Cup.

"Ben is part of the Brisbane Heat squad so he will be around the group still and we’ll certainly be in contact closer to the start of the domestic season and the JLT One Day games," selector Justin Sternes said.

"It’s important for us to have players like Ben and Chris working alongside the young members of the squad and ideally, they will be fit and available for selection for the Bulls for the one-day games."

The Bulls unveiled their contract list on Monday, with fast bowlers Jack Prestwidge and Xavier Bartlett handed full contracts for the first time.

Youngsters Nathan McSweeney, Blake Edwards and Connor Sully have all been given rookie contracts.

Batsman Usman Khawaja, opener Matthew Renshaw and fast bowler Billy Stanlake are all centrally contracted by Cricket Australia.

"We enjoyed some success last season but it’s encouraging to know there is more improvement to come," said coach Wade Seccombe.

"It’s a well-balanced squad with plenty of potential and we know there are some outstanding opportunities ahead. We’re all keen to work hard again and develop our skills further during the winter."
